The dynamic (bearhug!) duo, Costello Tagiapietra, debuted their Fall/Winter 2013 collection Thursday at the trendy Milk Studios for NYFW. Blending romanticism and confidence, the collection gracefully conforms to the female body through smart modern draping. No easy task. And yet, in their signature lumberjack flannel shirts, suspenders and jolly demeanor, the bearded couple stayed true to their established brand and sent 27 looks down the catwalk that spoke of an elegant modern femininity.
Inspired by “aerial maps, topographic line [and] how at closer inspection these representations of our environment take on an almost floral like energy,” the show was about color and womanliness (girls not so much). According to the show’s handout, “[They] used these images as tools to create style lines; superimposing them on the human form and then recreating them through their drape and patterning.” Models in clean makeup, striking red lips and teased hair in low ponytails also wore shoes created by SCHULTZ for Costello Tagliapietra, which featured the aerial print.
All fabric used by Costello Tagiapietra is dyed using Air-Dye technology, a non-toxic, waterless process. This sustainable alternative in no way compromises the richness in color. The fall/winter collection’s color palette combined crisp blues and autumn colors, including wheat, taupe and clay, reminiscent of a brisk breeze and autumn leaves. What we will all be clamouring to wear come Autumn.
