Friday Reading List: The Honest Life

Let’s be honest for a moment.

Jessica Alba had my heart since she starred in the show Dark Angel, as a talented and sexy young woman.
TheHonestLife3 She’s come a long way since the early 2000s, and now with the release of her book, The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You, she’s marked another milestone is her amazing career—not to mention the winning of my heart! This isn’t Alba’s first turn around the green world; she has previously won the “Green Parent” award from the Environmental Media Association, and founded the Honest Company, which provides products for healthy parenting.

The Honest Life is a book for anyone striving to live a wholesome life away from impurities (though it is very kid/family focused). From beauty, home, style, cleaning, baby and inspiration, she provides honest advice and dishonest ingredients. You can read The Honest Life cover to cover, or just pick it up for quick tips and you won’t be disappointed. We loved the quick tips, like one house plant for every 100 square feet of your house, what to avoid when buying skin care products, and recipes of all kinds, from apple cider vinegar anti-dandruff shampoo to household cleaning supplies. There are even grooming tips for guys!
Alba began the natural products journey when in search of the healthiest life for her children, Honor and Haven, balancing a busy life with nontoxic living. By acknowledging our packed schedules, but not surrendering to them, Alba reminds us to savor the good stuff. Her tips are more than just good advice, they are realistic. One of my favorites? She always tries to put on a great playlist and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day while cooking dinner for her family. Simple but so sweet (and do-able!).

Another great tip: When hosting a dinner party, don’t waste your time making appetizers. Stick to picking up cheese, crackers and olives at the store so you can focus your energy on a superb main course. Makes sense!

From a megacelebrity like Alba, this book is refreshingly is down-to-Earth, and its user-friendly format throughout each section makes living naturally fun, easy and attainable. The photos are gorgeous, and it inspires and reminds us to keep picking up those healthy habits and to share then with friends and family.
